Williams will have special Gulf livery for the Formula 1 races in Singapore, Japan and Qatar this season, and fans will be able to vote between four options.
Gulf joined Williams ahead of this season following a previous partnership with McLaren which saw the iconic livery used in Monaco in 2021. While there is no one-off design this weekend, Williams has announced that it will run a fan-selected livery design at three races later in the season, following feedback earlier this year that fans wanted to see the livery used.
“Gulf’s iconic colors have created great colors throughout motorsport history, and this year will be no different,” said Mike Jones, CEO of Gulf Oil International. “We are incredibly proud to announce that Williams Racing cars in the Arabian Gulf will appear at the 2023 Singapore, Japanese and Qatar Grands Prix.
“This project is all about putting fans in control and putting them at the heart of our partnership with Williams Racing. We strongly believe that each theme and paint job will go very well and we can’t wait to see which one fans will choose.
“We hope both Gulf and Williams Racing fans will love this vote and be excited to be part of Gulf’s latest livery choice. This activation means it will be an iconic moment for both Gulf and Williams Racing in motorsport.”
Announcing the project on a yacht in Monaco Harbour, Jones was joined by James Vowles, Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, who all preferred the “heritage” design, although all four were produced by the team to provide different options.
“I am delighted to announce the vote as part of our partnership between Gulf and Williams Racing,” said Vowles. “The winning livery will showcase the fusion of two iconic motorsport brands. Our fans have the opportunity to make motorsport history by making a paint decision, bringing this partnership to life. I can’t wait to see the winning design and see Williams Racing fans cheering for the team.”
The four options – “Bolder Than Brave”, “Contemporary”, “Visionary” and “Legacy” – can be voted on at the official Williams website: www.williamsf1.com.
