Expert Elections
Matt Barrie, ESPN
Winner: Viktor Howland
His game was in top form at the biggest tournaments this year. Memorial winner. PGA Championship runner-up, T-7 on Masters and T-3 on Players. This week, Hovland finally finishes and wins his first major title.
Tory Barron from ESPN.com
Winner: Brooks Koepka
A larger person would refrain from recalling that they correctly predicted Brooksy to win his fifth jackpot ahead of Oak Hill. But I’m petty, so no such luck. I’m sticking with “Big Game Brooks” again this week. Koepka will bring his panache, swashbuckling and out-of-this-world ball shots to Los Angeles Country Club and lead it back to 2018 – when he became only the fifth player to win the US Open and the PGA Championship in the same year.
Elizabeth Baugh, ESPN.com
Winner: Jordan Spieth
Spieth and his theatrics on a Los Angeles golf course? Perfect fit. He arrives having scored T-6 or better in six of his last 12 starts. The course favors players with an inventive approach, as does the Augusta National, where Spieth is famously thriving.
Michael Eaves, ESPN
Winner: Scottie Scheffler
Based on the way he played from tee to green, Scheffler should have two or three more wins this year. The only thing holding back more W was too many birdies that burned the edges. But in a place and event where some pars will look like a bird and a half, his putter should be enough to win this week.
Peter Lawrence-Riddell, ESPN.com
Winner: Scottie Scheffler
He finished T-2 last year at The Country Club, only one shot behind him Matt Fitzpatrick after completing T-7 in 2021 at Torrey Pines. Scheffler just feels like a player who has won the toughest test of golf once or twice in his career.
Andy NorthESPN
Winner: Max Homa
It could be Homa time. LACC is a great second echelon course that favors the Cal alumnus style of play.
Mark Schlabach from ESPN.com
Winner: Scottie Scheffler
Compared to last year, it was a quiet summer for Scheffler, even though he is once again the No. 1 golfer in the world. He hasn’t won since he won The Players in mid-March, which was a drought beyond… panting! — three months. But he has been a model of consistency, finishing in the top 12 in each of his last 16 starts and in the top five in each of his last four. He was tied for 10th in the Masters and 2nd in the PGA Championship. He did it all with a relatively cold putter. Winning the LACC will take some short game magic, and few players are as creative or as brave as Scheffler on the greens.
Marty Smith, ESPN
Winner: Viktor Howland
Brooks Koepka is red-handed and will be hunting again on Sunday. But it’s time for Hovland. The Norwegian golfer is overdue for a major championship win, and the increased focus on more conservative course management this year has produced some great results, including a victory at the Memorial and a T-2 at the PGA Championship. Oak Hill gave some guys the shivers. And Hovland said Memorial plays harder than many major championship courses. Hollywood? Shoot. Los Angeles will be at Hovland-wood on Sunday night.
Curtis StrangeESPN
Winner: Viktor Howland
Hovland is a great striker. He is sixth in the lead and 10th in the greens in the rules. In his last three starts, he finished second, finished 15th and won the Memorial. He’s hungry for more.
Paolo Uggetti, ESPN.com
Winner: Jordan Spieth
There’s something about exceptional golf courses like LACC that, at least in my mind, brings me back to one of the most exceptional golfers in the game. Spieth’s driving has improved significantly and his ability to get creative with the climbs, especially on the green, should bode well for this track. His trend is moving in the positive direction, with a good result in Harbor Town, and it seems that the US Open is uniquely suited to him and his game.
Scott Van Pelt, ESPN
Winner: Victor Hovland
I’m sure it will be a popular choice. Hovland is getting closer in the main directions. Just got the Memorial. And he’s a ball-hitting genius. He will soon become a great master. Maybe in this week.
The value of the bets predicts the win
We look at the betting board and suggest which golfer is most likely to cash in your ticket. If you agree, just chase it in:
Joe Fortenbaugh, ESPN Betting Analyst
Winner: Tyrrell Hatton (28-1)
Why will win: Hatton is in incredible form and has recorded six consecutive top 20 finishes, including three top five finishes. Save me. He enters the US Open third on the PGA Tour in terms of strokes scored: combined.
Tyler Fulghum, ESPN Betting Analyst
Winner: Dustin Johnson (28-1)
Why will win: It’s a good value for a player who has a pedigree to win in these types of events. Johnson has six US Open top eight finishes in his career, including a win at the Oakmont Country Club in 2016. He just won the LIV Tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a month ago, so it looks like he’s finally hit his mark.
Doug Kezirian, ESPN Betting Analyst
Winner: Rick Fowler (50-1)
Why will win: Fowler he is having a great season, finishing in the top 20 in all but two of his 13 events. Also, I expect long-range shots to have a better chance given how much is unknown at the Los Angeles Country Club. Wider fairways will aid driving.

Props and more
Our betting experts have more than just bets to win. Here are some props to look out for throughout the event, from top 10 to cuts made to tournament matchups. Brooks Koepka place in the top ten (+115) Phil Mickelson place in the top 40 (+130)
Anita’s brand: Koepka returns to his best shape and fitness. He has won the US Open twice and is ranked in the top 15 by all counts for a win after winning the PGA Championship last month.
Tyler Fulghum: Southern California golf requires an elite touch, feel and creativity around the greens. That sounds like something Mickelson can handle. Must be on track after last week’s news of the PGA-LIV-DP World Tour Partnership Deal. We saw him excel in this year’s main event, finishing runner-up in The Masters, and while he never won the US Open, he has had tremendous success at the US Open Championship.
