The Oakland Athletics are having their final days in the Bay Area, but not before potentially becoming the worst team in MLB history.
The 2023 season was doomed for Oakland from the start. Relocation rumors have been circulating for years, and things have finally progressed to the point where the team reached an agreement on a Las Vegas stadium deal. While the move to southern Nevada has yet to be voted down, it is believed it will get league approval when MLB owners meet next month.
The Oakland A is the worst team in MLB history

Because of this, the team sets records for poor attendance. Or maybe the fans don’t show up because they don’t want to watch the worst team to ever see a game.
In 55 games, the A’s have a disastrous 10-45 record, marking the worst start MLB has seen in 120 years. Just two months into the season, they are already 24.5 games behind the top spot in their own division and 29 games behind the league’s leading Rays.
Oakland has an round difference of -199, while the second-worst team has -76. They are currently on an 11-game losing streak and have only won two of their last 19 matches. Things won’t get any easier as they take on the NL’s leading Atlanta Braves before going on tour for 9 straight games away from home. It’s not like the location of the game matters as the A’s have won 5 games both home and away.
Last year, the Houston Astros allowed 518 runs. So far this season, Oakland has allowed 388 runs.
They scored 189 points. Gear differential: -199. Maybe this embarrassment will finally force MLB owners to protect their collective product and take further steps to reduce refueling.

Athletics is on track to finish with a record of 29-133, which would surely be the worst record in the modern era in MLB. Oddly enough, it was the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics that set the record for the worst winning percentage since 1900 with .235 (36-117), but then they only played 153 games.
The 2003 Detroit Tigers are the worst team ever to play 162 games, with a record of 43-119. If the Oakland Athletics maintain their current level, they will finish unbelievably 14 games worse.
