Malmoe, Sweden – WBA Intercontinental super flyweight champion Linn Sandstrom (7-2-2) retained her title in a technical draw with Venezuelan challenger Jovana Zuniga (16-5-1).
The fight had to be stopped in the second round when both ladies suffered serious cuts after an accidental clash of heads. It was a disappointing end to what had been a strong performance by former WBO middleweight champion Armand Krajnc.
Sandstrom is originally from Sweden but is now an Australian citizen and lives in Sydney.
In the same match, Sweden’s junior heavyweight champion Samo Jangirov (9-4-3) defended his title after a hard-fought draw against Goran Babic (7-1-1) in a tight back and forth fight.
Babic got off to a good start and Jangirov was strong towards the end. It was 78-75 for Babic, 76-76 and 77-75 for Jangirov.
Light heavyweight prospect Costas Nanga, now 9-0, defeated Poland’s Michał Łoniewski (4-4). The Pole was injured and almost fell late in the first and did not come out in the second. Nanga is ready for bigger fights.
Anthony Yigit, 27-3-1, enjoyed a good workout from Jacob Quinn (6-3) in a four-round welterweight bout. Yigit was last seen being stopped by Keyshawn Davis, but is now ready for bigger fights again.
In his last appearance in the Swedish ring, he defeated Spaniard Sandor Martin and defended his EBU super lightweight title.
