George Russell has been forced to ‘kick his head’ after finishing eighth in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver looked good all day behind the wheel of the upgraded W14 but failed to impress in Q3, eventually finishing slower than his teammate Lewis Hamilton and both Alpines.
Talking to the media, incl Racing News365.comRussell admitted: “There was definitely more to it.
“Q1 and Q2 looked quite promising, we were so close to Ferrari and Fernando.
“I pushed for more and paid the price and ended up going slower than my potential so I kicked myself a bit because of it, but I’d be just as disappointed if I was a tenth less and didn’t push a little more.
“That’s the price you pay sometimes, you can’t get it right every time, but I’m pretty disappointed.”
No worries with the update
Mercedes has made a number of improvements to the car a week later than planned following the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with the first signs of improvement expected at next weekend’s more conventional Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Referring to the update package, Russell insisted: “With this new update definitely no worries, everything works as expected.
“No real concerns…we’ve brought a lot to the car, aero package, new suspension and everything works as expected.
“I don’t see any reason why it won’t work as expected in Barcelona and I hope we can make a little leap.”
