Radical Motorsport brings the updated SR1 to XXR as the first major upgrade to its entry-level race car in six years. The machine boasts a redesigned body and an improved engine.
Power comes from the 5th generation version of Radical Precision Engineering’s 1.34-litre four-cylinder engine. It generates 198.8 horsepower and 120.1 Nm of torque. The powertrain weighs 183 pounds (83 kilograms), which includes the intake manifold, alternator, starter motor, and bell housing. The mill connects to a six-speed sequential gearbox.
Radical says the new engine benefits the riders. It heats up faster, and the oil change now takes place every ten hours, up from six hours previously. Redesigned oil removal pump helps with lubrication.
The car rides on the Nik-link suspension system, which has front and rear wishbones of different lengths. The pushers are adjustable and the shackles are replaceable.
The changed body gained a fin running behind the cockpit, up to the wing. Radical says the new piece draws inspiration from the LMP endurance racing cars.
Inside, buyers can get one or two seats. Instruments include the AIM MXS display with gear indicator, shift light and data logging.
Several options are available. For example, the Enhanced Data Pack includes GPS, race logging, brake pressure monitoring, and steering sensors. The exhaust muffler allows the SR1 to be used on track days with noise restrictions.
Radical is now taking orders for the SR1 XXR, but the company is not giving a price. Production starts in the summer of 2023.
At the end of 2022, Radical was introduced updated SR3 XXR. This is another step in relation to the SR1 XXR in the brand’s offer. The engine is a 1.5-liter, 232 hp, four-cylinder engine that can run on biofuel. The new braking system reduced unsprung weight and improved pedal feel. The changed design of the model also gained a rear fin.
Radical does too upgraded SR10 to XXR specification. It received more extensive styling modifications with front louvers in addition to the rear fin. The 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine generates 425 hp.
