Padraig Harrington lost a play-off to Steve Stricker at last week’s PGA Seniors Championship in Texas, and he can blame the painful loss on an old man’s bladder.
Reported by Todd Kelly from Golfweek that Harrington had a bizarre, very sincere excuse to hurriedly hit, leading to a double bogey in his third round.
“Sixteen came out of nowhere, which is I have. …so I basically went to the restroom. Doors were closed. It took me a minute to realize there was no one there, a few more, a few more minutes before I opened the door.
“Since we’re on the Champions Tour, I had the longest pee ever.”
You have to go, the door is locked, you are not sure if anyone is there, your group is waiting for you. We’ve all been there.
“And then I ran down the fairway and hit. The second hit was kind of harmless because the peg was so tight I was playing 15 feet to the left of it and honestly, yeah, I just wasn’t. … Sometimes I do, I just wasn’t focused, I wasn’t into it and I hit a bad gamble shot.”
Harrington also had a wayward driver who not only lost a few shots but also some cash from his wallet.
Harrington’s drive slammed into the gallery and hit the unfortunate man in the head.
In addition to apologizing and handing him the traditional signed glove, the Irishman reached for his wallet and pulled out a handful of cash for a viewer who was being treated for a nasty bump on his head.
