The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2023 is getting closer and closer, and while Ken Block is sadly not here to see it, his legacy lives on. His wife Lucy, an accomplished American Rally Association (ARA) rally driver, has been confirmed for this year’s event. She will drive Sierra Echo EV in the Unlimited category, with the number 430 on the side.
On Instagram, Block shared the news along with photos of the car she will be piloting. Echo is built by Sierra Cars and features a single Hypercraft electric motor and batteries with a total capacity of 55.8 kWh of electricity. It generates 300 horsepower for a single seat tube race car, giving it a top speed of 120 mph. This will be Lucy’s first uphill race.
“Being able to lead Ken to the top of Pikes Peak is an honor,” she said in a statement shared by dirtfish. “He has given so much to the action sports community. Riding the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb gives us a way to get Ken’s spirit up and do something he was excited about himself. We look forward to using this opportunity to raise awareness around 43 Institute and celebrate my husband’s love of motorsport and innovation.”
Although this is Lucy’s first uphill run, she is he is no stranger to the rally scene. He currently sits 12th overall in the 2023 ARA Championship where he competes in the Limited 4WD class driving a Ford Fiesta. He’s sitting next to her Ken’s longtime pilot Alex Gelsominoand the duo raced to finish fourth in their class at the recent Oregon Trail Rally.
Lucy isn’t the only Block competing in the ARA or racing uphill at Pikes Peak. Lia will honor her dad driving wild Porsche “Hoonipigasus” with 1400 hp he planned to race last year before suffering an engine failure. Lia’s run is just a show pass, so it won’t be timed, but we suspect she’s more than capable when it comes to car control. She doesn’t just race Subaru BRZ in the Open 2WD class for the 2023 ARA season First in the class that had just finished on the podium at the Oregon Trail Rally. This win also moved her up to sixth overall in the 2023 ARA Championship.
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2023 will take place on June 25.
