Totally Tennis assistant administrator and Pickleball coordinator Jill Gibson completed the 100km Dog Walking challenge. Together, Jill and her 11-year-old cocker spaniel Finlay raised £718 for Dementia UK.
The challenge Jill undertook while her mother was suffering from dementia was a journey full of perseverance and commitment, during which the couple walked in all kinds of weather throughout March. Some walks were quick jaunts in their area, while others were longer walks exploring new areas.
Jill said of her challenge: “Thank you to my husband Jim, daughter Emma and friends who accompanied us on our walks. As many of you know, my mother suffered from dementia and for me it was a very personal reason to help understand this terrible disease“.
She added, “I am absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity and very grateful to everyone who has sponsored me. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me and Finlay on our walking journey this month“.
Dementia UK is a charity specializing in dementia nurses. Dementia United Kingdom specialist nurses, called Admiral Nurses, help people with dementia stay independent for longer and support those around them to have the strength to deal with bad days and the energy to enjoy the good days. Any support like the challenge Jill takes on means nurses can be a lifeline for more families affected by dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
