AT HOME OR AWAY?
When Rashford scored against Chelsea on Thursday, he became United’s fourth top scorer at Old Trafford in a single season, equaling Wayne Rooney behind Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2001/02 (28 goals) and 2002/03 (21 goals). campaigns and Cristiano Ronaldo 2007/08 (26 goals).
With van Persie netting 18 away goals in 2012/13, he set a record for any United player in the Premier League era. This achievement has not yet been achieved by any Red so far.
THE CLASS COMES IN VARIOUS FORMS
Van Persie and Rashford are two very different players. One relies heavily on his pace and power, while the other plays centrally and uses his deadly left foot.
The statistics further reflect the differences between them, whether they are prolific at home or away, or whether they have scored more goals in the Premier League than in any other competition.
But they have one simple factor in common: they know how to find the end of the web.
Marcus has two more games left to try to surpass the 30-goal RvP tally, and at 25, he has many more years ahead of him to try and match or eclipse other goalscoring accolades held by United’s great strikers who have graced the pitch at Old Trafford.
It’s been 10 years since Old Trafford had a goalscoring season similar to van Persie’s 2012/13, but under the guidance of RvP compatriot Ten Hag, there’s a feeling Rashford is emerging as a player who could take up that mantle.
