DAVE SAVES – SALE
With all the praise De Gea has garnered during his United career and winning the Premier League Golden Glove this season, it’s safe to say he wasn’t necessarily known for his penalty saves. However, our No 1 did brilliantly, going low on the left and minimizing the Mitrovic penalty, preventing Fulham from scoring twice. It was the Spaniard’s first penalty since he denied Watford’s Ismaila Sarro in November 2021, while Mitrovic missed from 12 yards for the fourth time this season.
SANCHO FINISHES HIGH
Our number 25 hasn’t always had it easy in the 2022/23 season, but it undoubtedly ends the campaign strong. Playing at right-back, it was the wide striker’s fourth consecutive start and he looked increasingly confident during these forays. It was great to see the smile on the 23-year-old’s face after he scored United’s first-half equalizer – his seventh goal of the season – and Reds fans around the world will be eagerly awaiting his progress next season.
SEEING NEW ARRIVALS
The result ensured United won all six of their Premier League matches against teams promoted this season – Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. Some of them were hard fought: Casemiro’s goal was all that separated us from Bournemouth earlier this month, and it wasn’t until Garnacho’s last-minute goal that secured the return leg against Fulham in November. The last time we achieved this feat was in the 2011/12 season. Meanwhile, according to Opta, the win means we have only lost the last Premier League match in one of the 10 campaigns we have contested for the FA Cup final this season (W7, R2).
ANTONI COME BACK?
Not so much a topic of match discussion as a match day that fans will no doubt be discussing on their way home as Ten Hag revealed before kick-off that Antony’s injury is not as serious as initially feared and the winger could be in contention to return to the first all-Manchester cup final. The Brazilian was present at Old Trafford to cheer on his teammates and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for him to be in contention.
