Positive news emerged this week about Ivan Toney’s suspension as the striker appears in court for the first time to answer betting allegations.
Of course, it’s important to state that no one knows yet what ban Toney will receive, and for now, it’s just rumors.
But Jan Krzyż z Everyday mirror is a credible source and says it’s understandable that Ivan Toney could face a ban of up to six months, although he could be banned all summer.
This means it could be available again from around September, if other rumors are true it could be suspended for three months.
For me, we should ALL take care of it if the ban turns out to be what it says above and honestly, regardless. I would sign him this summer and either trust Armando Broja until Toney is available or I would sign a striker like Alexander Mitrovic on a short term contract IF at all possible.
Toney is THE guy. I am far from all the other strikers and options that we were strongly associated with. Victor Osimhen is probably the only one I like, but not anywhere near the quoted fee.
Viktor Osimhen
I realize Thomas Frank also put a ridiculous fee on Toney’s head, and they may be trying to play dumb assholes. But if Toney is pushing for a transfer and really wants it, I don’t foresee any problems signing him for a reasonable fee.
Toney has a market value of £45m and only 2 years left on his current contract. If Brentford is smart, they could get a very respectable fee for him this summer, much more than they would get for him next summer. I don’t know what strategy they will take here, but if I had to guess, I think you’d be looking for something between £55m and £70m. It’s just a guess.
Speaking of versatile forwards who can score goals, be a focal point up top, engage in connecting play, have a leadership and winning mentality, and prove PL, Toney is your man.
