I recently became a convert to the world of Allbirds shoes and am excited to see them enter the golf shoe market.
Allbirds Golf Dasher Review: Balanced or Playable?
Allbirds has made a name for itself as a sustainable footwear brand that focuses on natural materials and holistic comfort. I, along with a few of my office colleagues, are a big fan of Allbirds for everyday wear.
However, the recipe for good golf shoes is very different from the recipe for good casual shoes. All birds have the latter down. But making a golf shoe? It’s a completely different beast.
My first impressions were hopeful but not overly optimistic. If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a professional shoe tester, it’s that the minimalist approach to golf shoes often means a loss of stability or a trade-off with traction.
And if someone has a minimalist approach to footwear, it’s Allbirds. That said, my job is to give Allbirds Golf Dasher a good jolt. Here are my thoughts.
Comfortable and cool
The best feature of Allbirds Golf Dasher? Comfort. Allbirds knows comfort and filled the Golf Dasher with lightweight SweetFoam foam. What is SweetFoam? I’m glad you asked. It is Allbirds patented EVA foam made of sugar cane. In their words, it is the world’s first carbon negative green EVA. What does it all mean? I won’t go into it. For the golfer, that means a comfortable, responsive ride.
The SweetFoam midsole on the Allbirds Golf Dasher was one of the most comfortable golf shoes I’ve worn in a while. And with little to no break-in time, Golf Dashers are ready to hit the golf course right out of the box.
A holistic view of comfort includes more than just a pillow under your feet. The Allbirds Golf Dasher features a knitted wool upper that is incredibly soft and breathable. Additional ripstop reinforcements provide added durability and a semblance of water resistance.
If you’re a fan of one-to-one matching, the Golf Dasher is comfortable and secure, but not restrictive.
Traction that gives it its all
One look at the Allbirds Golf Dasher had me concerned about the traction lugs (or lack thereof). It’s not that they don’t exist – they’re just small and extremely flexible. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the Allbirds Golf Dasher’s dry performance.
The traction turned out to be sufficient for a relaxed golf game. As a minimalist golf shoe, the Allbirds Golf Dasher does enough in the traction department to be considered a spikeless golf shoe.
It will not compete with the performer in rainy weather such as CodeChaos 22 Or Payment X001 but in dry conditions you will be free to swing,
Allbirds Golf Dasher: Pretty functional for a first outing
Allbirds Golf Dasher is the brand’s first foray into the world of golf shoes. How did they fare? I would say better than average. Aided by holistic comfort and grip that’s enough Allbirds Golf Dasher is a new personal favourite.
