What is ADAPT tennis? ADAPT Performance Tennis in Totally Tennis is a program developed by competitive athlete and coach Debbie Hale to “create buzz around training together.” The program offers the opportunity to bring together players from the county level (or above) without imposing their own programs on their clubs. Simply, players can access great training with players of a similar level in a great facility.

Why totally tennis? Hale played for the club with tennis director Nigel Long from the ages of 14-18 before heading to Bath University where she continued her tennis journey. She has fond memories of playing here as a junior and a great relationship with Nigel, so together they decided something would work. Basingstoke is also a great place for a bunch of players to come together to train and the court facilities are all you need to run a performance programme.
What is the purpose of ADAPT? Hale wanted to create a program where coaches and clubs feel they can send players to extra training sessions while still playing within the existing coach/club schedule. The aim is for future Hampshire county teams to be filled with more depth and players to reach national level. Like the old days when Hale was young and there were at least ten players at the national championship.
How does ADAPT work? If the parents have permission from their son/daughter’s coach who agrees to receive additional training at ADAPT, Hale is happy to coach these players. Clear communication between coaches and parents is the key to good cooperation.
How often can players join the ADAPT hive? Players can sign up ad hoc day by day or pay per course.
What does Hale offer? With over twenty years of experience and the last fifteen appearances, Hale has produced and supported many players at national and European level. He cares about players and their individual journeys. ADAPT is a high-intensity training environment with basketball and rally drills and detailed coaching guidance to improve your athlete technically, tactically and mentally.
What is Hale looking forward to in a tennis year? Hale loves spending the day at Wimbledon and county week, county matches and county cups both playing himself and captain. He likes the team aspect of tennis and the way the players represent each other and the team.
